Village People - Macho Man

Victor Willis (police officer), Felipe Rose (Native American), Randy Jones (cowboy), Glenn Hughes (biker), David Hodo (construction worker) and Alex Briley (GI) were the original members of the successful disco crossover group the Village People. The Village People were a group designed to appeal to the gay audience of the disco area, but crossed over into mainstream with the hits that we all know today. Try going to a wedding or a sporting event and not hearing these guys. Maybe the stereotypes that the Village People brought were O.K. for middle America, but one thing is for sure about these guys. You always want to move and grove when you hear them.

Side 1
1. "Macho Man"- Oh, were do I begin with this song. Sure it is a gay anthem. It's also a song that everyone knows. Laugh at it all you want, but this is one of those song that crossed over. Ladies, the only time your Husbands can act gay is during the Block Party. When they all want to make you laugh and perform this song. "Oh Jim looks so Funny as the biker," says Jim's gorgeous wife. "Carl really knows how to wear that Construction helmet," says Jim's gorgeous wife about Franny's Husband. "Hey How come no one dressed up as the Native American," says Bruce with some sass. Oh the Middle Class! (4 out of 4)

2. "I Am What I Am" - Sure this sounds like everything else they made, but this is the song the middle American played in secret. At least the ones in the Closet. (3 1/2)

Side 2
1. "Key West" - I can picture all of them on skis wearing their respective costumes. I think what makes the Village people so fun is the fact that you can sing with them. All you have to do is repeat what the lead singer says.(3)

2. "Medley: Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody - A nice cover of a already weird song. You can't help but fall for this song. Sure it is cheese, but did we think we were getting a Donna Summer Bologna sandwich. (3)

3. "Sodom and Gomorrah"- I am not even going to touch this one with Charles Nelson Reilly's ascot. (2 1/2)
