My Top 5 PSA Commercials from the 80's

Back in the 80's they seemed to have a lot of PSA Commercials. Some of them made sense and some of them still make me scratch my head. Here is my list of my favorite... Enjoy!!!

5) Captain O.G. Readmore - This Cool Cat tried to convince you that reading could take you any where. He often sang a song like a rhyming beat poet from the 70's and laughed like Winnie the Pooh's Tigger on Ritalin. Of Course every one knows when he gets drunk he turns into MC Skat Kat... O.k. that isn't true!!!

4) Parents Who Use Drugs. - You have to give credit to this on. This has been around forever and has spawned many copy cats.

 3) MCGRUFF the Crime Dog - A good PSA teaches you something, but a great PSA scares the living shit out of you. That is what MCGRUFF did for me. I could be playing with 60 of my close friends and then bam... we have all been kidnapped.

2) Trees Are Terrific - Thank you Nebraska. You are one of the reddest states and you still want us to fly around with a bird and love the environment.

 1) A Hanker for a Hunka Cheese - This is what we needed back in the day. Some overweight Orange Cowboy telling us what we need to eat. Make sure when you get home from school you eat a lot of cheese. A whole Wagon Wheel worth. That won't back you up for days.

Worst New Year's Parties you could of attended!

1. Poseidon Adventure - You could of complained for not having anything to do on New Year's Eve, but it could be worse. You could be on the Poseidon when a big tidal wave tips you over and you need to fight to stay alive. Or it could be worse, you could be in the terrible remake movie.
2. 200 Cigarettes - No one showed up to your party? You might be Martha Plimpton in this movie. Join this New Year's party... Forget the Cheese Dip... Costello is the best side dish.

3. Trading Places - O.K. this party would be fun to attend... except if you were the guy dressed in the guerrilla costume.

3 Retro Obsessions for the Week Dec 2 - 8

1.  Talking like Fagan and Lucian from a forgotten SNL Sketch. It is so much fun to talk like these guys. Ohhhhhhhhh. Yessssss.. Oh Ohhhhbh!

2. Watching Logan's Run on Blue Ray. There is something great about watching this Cheesy Sci-Fi Flick that gets me every time. Maybe it's the red lights blinking in their hands, or the fantastic Carrousel scene, or Farrah Fawcett's wonderful acting.... Oh who am I kidding... The real winner in this movie is finding out that all cats have three names. Thanks Peter Ustinov!!!

 3. The Into to the TV show Amen

Michael Larson - Press Your Luck Cheater?

Press Your Luck was an 80's Game show where contestants would spin for prizes on a big board. Careful, if you landed on a Whammy you lost all you money and lost your turn. But did anyone ever avoid the Whammy? Yes, on May 1984 that aired on TV in June 1984, Michael Larson won $110,237 in cash and prizes, at the time the largest one-day total ever won on a game show. So how did he do it? Larson memorized the patterns used on the Press Your Luck game board. See, the board had lights that would light up fast, but if you watched closely you could see when it would always hit the big bucks square. Larson, figured out were the pattern was and scored big. The producers thought he was cheating because  they noticed that Larson immediately celebrated after many of his spins, instead of waiting the fraction of a second that it would normally take for a player to see and respond to the space they had stopped on. Watch the episode below and see if you can spot the pattern.
